20 Down Ss (14 M + 6 F) with an age range of 5;7- 17;1 years, mental age < 11;6 as determined by Stanford-Binet L-M Form and mean IQ = 55 were given 4 language developmental investigation tests (Visual Denomination; Free Speech; Sentence Repetion and Token Test). 4 Ss had a normal scores to Visual Denomination; 9 Ss to Free Speech; 1 S to Sentence Repetition and 1 S to Token Test. Since most Ss failed the tests with higher cognitive implòications, one rightly may hypothesize a close link between mental retardation and speech retardation
