This paper approaches the theme of “territorial social responsibility”, founded on the re–discovery of shared values which economic, social and institutional actors within a particular territory can reinforce, thanks to solid relationships. Based on territorial networks aimed to promote a model of sustainable economic growth, the movement of collective responsibility sees institutions and public and private organisations (for profit and non–profit) participating in a form of economic development that is socially and environmentally sustainable. Where deeply rooted actors are stimulated to cooperate for the responsible development of the socio–economic system, their combined actions become an effective instrument of local governance and partnerships between local public and private partners can be considered a new form of policy and it can be interpreted as a possible form of “managing publicly”. Drawing from this consideration, the study presents an analysis of initiative and projects promoted in Italy by local governments, particularly those in the Marches Region, that help create CSR–oriented territorial networks.
