This study focuses on the selection criteria adopted by large retailers in their relationships with small and medium sized suppliers and the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and logistics innovation for the supply chain improvement. An empirical research on a sample of 70 Italian firms in the food sector was conducted adopting a suppliers' perspective. Results revealed a connection between the size of suppliers, the size of retailers and closeness of relationship between partners, on one side, and the adoption of ICT and logistics innovation for vertical relationships, on the other side.

Abstract
