A brief snippet of the debate on Gramsci's "historicism", held by Nicola Badaloni and Cesare Luporini between 1962 and 1975, introduces us to the focal point of this contribution, namely the profound and groundbreaking redefinition of "historicism" carried out by Antonio Gramsci in his Prison Notebooks. Starting from the reactivation of the meaning of "historicism" as a synonym for modern philosophy in general, a meaning he was familiar with between 1914 and 1919, Gramsci gradually deconstructs this notion, integrating it into the question of the unification of theory and praxis and of the search for a "realistic" approach to "immanence". Consequently, historicism not only splits into two opposite notions - "idealistic" and "absolute" or "integral" historicism -, but it also incorporates the tension between history, politics and truth, that is at the core of the "philosophy of praxis".
