Abstract

Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDSs) are a heterogeneous group of clonal hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) malignancies that are characterized by ineffective bone marrow hematopoiesis, peripheral blood cytopenias and a substantial risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.1, 2, 3 There is evidence that alterations of the direct interaction between HSCs and stroma contribute to abnormal HSC growth and maturation.4
