The secondary school teacher training program in Italy (SSIS) is a university-level school of specialization specifically devoted to the education and training of professional teachers for secondary-level schools, which in Italy comprises both middle (age 11 to 14) and high school (age 14 to 19) education. Teachers-to-be who enroll at the SISS already possess a Master degree in specific area of competence, such as mathematics or philosophy, received at the completion of a four or five-year University program. At SISS, they receive training in one or more sets of disciplines related to the specific teaching position they will apply for (e.g. Mathematics & Physics; Italian, History & Geography; German language and Literature, etc.).
