Filosofiacoibambini is an original educational approach that is historically consistent with the studies and researches Matthew Lipman first presented in the United States in the early ‘70s. Filosofiacoibambini aims to broaden and improve Lipman’s approach in two ways. On the one hand, setting off an original and innovative practice with kids, mainly based on object-related pretexts, exercises and linguistic puns; on the other hand, working on the constitution of a permanent philosophical observatory based on an avant-garde method and a network of connection among a variety of scientific disciplines. This will lead to a conspicuous number of researches and studies grounded in the observation and study on children, but also in the understanding of their reasoning process and the philosophical insights that come with it. The PhD dissertation “The ‘If’ that will help you grow up. A critical thinking on Filosofia Coi Bambini” traces the story and achievements of a unique and innovative educational approach based on the teaching of philosophy, that in eight years has already spread widely throughout Italy and abroad; Filosofiacoibambini produces reflections, theoretical inputs, descriptions of the laboratories and the all the work done in class, case studies and archive materials. This work ultimately represents the attempt to summarize an itinerary that is at its early stage, the youth of a philosophical practice, of a debate that still needs to find its own climax and its final goals. Because of these and other reasons – in addition to the variety of horizons that the future of this research forecasts – this work doesn’t expect to be neither exhaustive nor complete, it simply introduces itself to the reader as a starting point for all that still needs to be done both in the philosophical and educational fields. Abstract
