BETWEEN VISUAL REPRESENTATION OF THE BODY AND NARRATIVE OF SELF: PRACTICES OF SELF-PRESENTATION AND IMAGES OF FACEBOOK USERS The dissertation proposed below aims to investigate the self-presentation mode where users search through, on their Facebook profiles, create the story by themselves, starting from the photos depicting bodies or parts of the body that are posted on the Social Network. The definition and subsequent communication of the substrate with which identity is presented to us in Facebook is, therefore, considered as photographic apparatus in which there is the bodily presence. The goal is to understand whether the method of presentation of self to take place in imitation of existing models into or out of the network or are instead guided by other factors, and whether they are oriented to a notice of aesthetic and formal, that is, focused on aesthetic manifestation of the body or if, instead, they turn enucleation of other aspects of the person, or if it is a favorite of self-presentation mode median between the two. The work, considered his focus of investigation, opens with a first chapter on Visual Culture, chosen as a discipline designed to be the global frame of research: on the one hand, in fact, the predominant position of the visual within our society and the rise of technologies of ever more elaborate vision has made it necessary to redefine the visual concept; on the other, the absence of disciplinary boundaries, of which the scope of the Visual Culture has made it possible to conduct the study without the previous survey limitations. Since the research was specifically created starting from the apparatus photo of Facebook user profiles, the second chapter briefly traces the history of photography, focusing mainly on its impact in the social and sociological and showing the role which it holds today in reference to daily practices. The third chapter is concerned, instead, the question of the body: sociology relating to this field of inquiry shows how, in today's society, much of the communication of the self is to be assigned precisely to the body member, in a growing process of sexual objectification and similarity between body and person. The last theoretical chapter is dedicated to Facebook, that you do not offer a holistic treatment but only those parts which are considered useful for the purposes of research: the evolution of the concept of friendship and make relationship and the temporal element perception, and general aspects of self-presentation in Facebook, all elements inherent in their way of being in Facebook Chapter five presents in detail the research methodology by which the survey was conducted; in summary, it was decided to select a sample of twenty subjects, aged between 18 and 56+ years, equally divided between males and females, and broken down according to the information from the statistical data about the distribution by gender and age of the users Facebook in Italy and we proceeded with an interview for photo-stimulation integrated with semi-structured interview, in order to identify what mode of self-presentation users would give life, starting from the photographic material depicting bodies posted on the profiles personal of the respondents. The qualitative instrument was considered the most appropriate method of investigation, given the aims of the research and was inescapably based on an analysis of the visual content, specified and commented on by users. The methods of self-presentation are investigated in this work from the perspective of those who create them, that is, based on the considerations that the subject makes of itself, relatively to their own ways of communicating in Facebook. The results and their concluding remarks close the chapter five. This research has made it possible, then, to trace, in reference to the sample chosen, the general lines of modes of self-presentation, highlighting the value assigned by users to the existing bridge between photography, meaning and photo presentation of his own person, to inside of the framework offered by Facebook.
