Gherardo Gherardi (1891-1949), journalist, theater critic, dramatist and screenwriter, played a central role in the scene of the show and, generally, in that of the culture between the two world wars. This work returns, in diplomatic edition, eleven Gherardi’s unplublished plays in italian language, that, through the entire published production of the author, convey both themes and forms already known and dormant or undervalued aspects of his dramaturgy. Three papers, they too returned in diplomatic edition, of Gherardi with Silvio d’Amico, Giulio Pacuvio and Ruggero Ruggeri, almost completely unpublished, follow the edition of the unplublished plays. A historical-critical essay introduces the philological part of the thesis. This essay, making use of documentary materials, describes the Gherardi’s biographical profile, his poetic and his dramaturgical identity, without forgetting the exegetical study of a significant, even for the troubled process of drafting, unpublished play of his dramaturgy: Diogene. A new and detailed teatrografia and a document summary of the author’s archival collection complete the work.
