The paper deals with the treatment of the mediation theme in the Iliad. A new reading of the poem permits the gathering of some characteristics regarding structure, subject, rhetorical devices and the different contexts of the scenes concerned. A more detailed analysis of the first book is proposed: it plays a peculiar role in the poem, because it consists of a series of linked mediations, which account for as many variations on the theme.
