Il glossario Adipiscitur nel codice St. Gallen 908: edizione critica e commento.

This study offers the first critical edition of Adipiscitur, an unpublished Latin glossary, only written on pages 174-228 in codex St. Gallen, Stiftsbibliothek 908. This collection includes glosses in which each lemma (consisting of a single word or a short phrase) is always followed by an explanation (usually formed by one or more terms). The content is heterogeneous: not only have we voices with terms attested in late antiquity, but also with common and usual Latin words. Thanks to an accurate comparison with various glossaries it is possible to highlight significant mistakes and correspondences with traditions of Affatim, Abstrusa and Abolita; in addiction, there are a relevant number of unknown glosses, whose content is sometimes relevant, but we are far from finding their exact quotations. Moreover, the important influence of Vulgar Latin and the large number of corruptions, which in some cases require the use of cruces desperationis suggest that that this text, as it is preserved, does not represent the original, but the last phase of its textual tradition. Nevertheless, a conservative criterion is chosen in the constitutio textus, so as to maintain ‘strange’ forms that adhere to graphic and phonetic habits of Mediaeval Latin, and usually appear in other glossaries.
