The chapter analyses the history of the efforts by engaged domestic workers, especially in the 1970s, to change their role in Italian society. They tried to create new forms of service and assistance, especially for the benefit of the lower classes. Furthermore, it analyses the projects about the family and the domestic sphere brought about by the feminist movement. The chapter highlights the highly problematic relationship between domestic workers and feminists and focuses on the negative consequences, for Italian society as a whole, of only partial realization of their projects.
