The contribution concerns prohibition signs in public spaces. It aims to treat this topic as a relevant subject of discussion on LInguistic Landscapes. The text discusses the relevance of prohibition signs for the constitution of space and their impact on Linguistic Landscapes. It outlines the field of analysis giving a speech-act-based definition of "prohibition" with some remarks on felicity conditions, communicative function and the form of this type of public signs. In the last step, the results of these reflections are applied to a small corpus of prohibition signs documented in German environments. The analysis gives a first overview of the situational and linguistic characteristics of prohibition signs in German.
