Abstract: The communicative approach considers the «communicative norm» as that between two native speakers. However, as far as communication in English is concerned, the variables must necessarily be remodulated because the people using it have, to a large extent, profoundly different linguistic, cultural, and social backgrounds. It thus becomes essential in 2022 to provide for teaching English as an inter national and intercultural language and exposing learners not just to a single native cultural model, but rather to a great variety of situations and models that can be considered universal instead of local. This essay will analyze the importance of planning a linguistic and intercul tural education that can be considered effective for all intents and purposes, and which – by promoting the development of an intercultural, global, and inclusive citizenship – demonstrates that it also has a social calling.
