The chapter analyses the various forms of monologic discourse, from soliloquy to the aside convention. Both comedies and tragedies (among which Hamlet, Julius Caesar, Twelfth Night, Measure for Measure, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Richard III) are searched for monologues showing the complexity of theatrical communication that builds up meanings and the characters' individuality.
