The essay analyses employment agencies involved in the intermediation, search, selection of domestic and care workers, and/or the supply of temporary domestic and care staff, interweaving historical, legal and sociological perspectives. The reconstructed picture shows that the agency issue is a long-standing problem in the sector. The ambiguity of legislation, on the one hand, and the non-compliance with regulations on the other combine to create a 'wild' market in which domestic and care workers appear to be particularly vulnerable to exploitation, and in which the quality and quantity of services available to families are strongly linked to their wealth, thereby accentuating social inequalities.

Abstract
The essay analyses employment agencies involved in the intermediation, search, selection of domestic and care workers, and/or the supply of temporary domestic and care staff, interweaving historical, legal and sociological perspectives. The reconstructed picture shows that the agency issue is a long-standing problem in the sector. The ambiguity of legislation, on the one hand, and the non-compliance with regulations on the other combine to create a 'wild' market in which domestic and care workers appear to be particularly vulnerable to exploitation, and in which the quality and quantity of services available to families are strongly linked to their wealth, thereby accentuating social inequalities.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
