The archaeological research of the University of Urbino at Cyrene began in 1957 with Sandro Stucchi, who as dedicated 35 years of excavations, restorations and studies in the city, with numerous publications. Mario Luni has continued this work since 1996, with new findings in the Agora Quarter, in particular the archaic temple in the Sanctuary of Dioscuri and the 74 pieces of statues in the the Temple of Cybele. The most significant discovery in Cyrene is the hexastyle Doric temple in the Sanctuary of Demeter, with propylaea, altar, theater and minor monuments, greatly expanding the knowledge of the topography of the city.
