A Companion to Grammar and Information Structures is the result of the author’s teaching and research experience at the Education Faculty of Urbino University. The text is useful for university students who possess a satisfactory knowledge of the structure of English but who wish to improve their communicative skills and for teachers of English who wish to verify their linguistic competence. The parallel text in Italian has a dual purpose: to offer descriptions, explanations and analyses of linguistic topics that are often neglected in the run-of–the-mill English language text-books and to provide a model of translation which gives readers the opportunity of putting their ability of comprehending a text in English to the test.
