The paper concerns a significant episode of the Italian archaeological research in the Cyrenaica region, during the first half of the XX century. The controversial uses of the classical antiquities by the political propaganda during that time are well-documented by the famous Venus discovered at Cyrene at the ending of the 1913. The statue became a political symbol of the Italian colonialism in Libya as well as an artistic model in institutes and academies of fine arts.
