This paper defines CLIL methodology describing the main aspects which distinguish it from the large range of approaches in which content is conveyed through a foreign language. Specifically, the study aims to present the introduction of CLIL teaching in the Italian education system and to identify the role of universities in CLIL research, didactics and teacher training.
