Abstract

The city of Urbino holds the precious “woods” of Umberto Mastroianni and is proud of the creation of a special bond with the Master since the 80s with the inauguration of the Monumento alla Resistenza inside the Fortezza Albornoz. The Mastroianni Project, proposed, arises from the need to recover the wooden models of the artist, creating a “Mastroianni Walk” without however precluding the common use of the well-know Ramp, as the link between Piazza del Mercatale and the highest part of the city, as an access to the Palazzo Ducale. Based on the program presented in June 2012 through an agreement concluded with the municipality of Urbino, the University started an intervention aimed to the study of the artworks as a complex. Issues linked to executive techniques, to conservative conditions, to the study of microclimate of indoor and outdoor exhibition environment have been dealt with. The spatial arrangement of the various elements and its changing, in a comparison between wooden models and outdoor artworks, has been one of the most original aspect of the educational trail undertaken with images and archive documents analysis, use of three-dimensional systems capable of acquiring objects with complex and articulated volumes with high accuracy. Arriving, at least, to a methodological proposal that starts from artworks individual elements cataloguing and their location in space, by defining essential guidelines, artwork by artwork, for conservative purposes and towards eventual handlings, always considering the relation, in general, between work of art and environment, here developed in two versions: artwork and museum space, artwork and urban space.
