The essay focuses on the relationship between common good, religion, and religious diversity. It develops the issue in three stages : the irst focuses on the ambiguity that characterizes the contemporary revival of the concept of common good ; the second tries to show that this concept is fully meaningful only if placed on the metaphysical and religious background from which it arose in Western culture ; the third deals with the problems posed by its recovery in a cultural and social context characterized by a growing religious diversity.
