In the last fifteen years, the Italian Archaeological Mission of the University of Urbino at Cyrene brought to light several coins (ca. 1500) both in the extramural sanctuary of Demetra and in the Agorà Quarter. Particularly significant are the finds from the area South of the Hellenistic Gymnasium, in the recently identified Sanctuary of the Dioscuri, founded by king Battus I at the end of VII century BC. Such fundamental area revealed a deposit of 259 fourth- century bronze coins inside a jug in the so-called “Casa del Ripostiglio” and a group of 14 late Roman bronze coins under the collapsed Temple of Cybele. Such finds are extremely important in that they belong to sealed contexts, which allowed us to investigate the last stages of the life of such key area for the first time. Collected data allowed us to reconsider the traditional date of 07.21.365 AD for the earthquake which devastated Cyrenaica in IV century AD.
