History of philosophy is a cross-border discipline between two branches of knowledge separated by a centuries-old rivalry, that only in given times and authors seemed to attain an albeit problematic composition. By their own vocation such peculiar historians are inclined to surpass the uncertain boundary of philosophy for losing themselves in the wider realm of intellectual history. This essay merely aims to suggest some general observations on this matter by moving from the particular case of those philosophical conceptions or expectations about the Muslim East which, mixed with a more concrete information obtained on the spot, contributed in Europe to determine the early partial understanding of a still actual phaenomenon: the Wahhabi version of Islam.

Abstract
History of philosophy is a cross-border discipline between two branches of knowledge separated by a centuries-old rivalry, that only in given times and authors seemed to attain an albeit problematic composition. By their own vocation such peculiar historians are inclined to surpass the uncertain boundary of philosophy for losing themselves in the wider realm of intellectual history. This essay merely aims to suggest some general observations on this matter by moving from the particular case of those philosophical conceptions or expectations about the Muslim East which, mixed with a more concrete information obtained on the spot, contributed in Europe to determine the early partial understanding of a still actual phaenomenon: the Wahhabi version of Islam.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
