In contrast to prejudice, ignorance and superstition which, both then and now, create illusory security boundaries and nurture sad feelings of resentment and hate, affections capable of contributing to Spinoza’s ethical-political project will then be joyful ones of generositas and animi fortitudo (an effective antidote to every form of imperium violentum), rather than the «constancy» of free men enduring the constriction of libertas philosophandi.
