Starting from A. Allegra’s book, Visioni transumane (2017), in this essay I support the idea that transhumanism attempts to reactivate, in the secularized context of Western societies, a kind of religious imagination that is not opposed to the scientific worldview. In particular, I discuss the topic of a secular immortality and salvation. Hence, I wonder whether transhumanism is conceivable as a new “religion of humanity” or a “religion without revelation” and evaluate its position with regard to historical religions and in particular to Christianity. Finally, I critically take into account some recent theological interpretations of transhumanism.

Abstract
Starting from A. Allegra’s book, Visioni transumane (2017), in this essay I support the idea that transhumanism attempts to reactivate, in the secularized context of Western societies, a kind of religious imagination that is not opposed to the scientific worldview. In particular, I discuss the topic of a secular immortality and salvation. Hence, I wonder whether transhumanism is conceivable as a new “religion of humanity” or a “religion without revelation” and evaluate its position with regard to historical religions and in particular to Christianity. Finally, I critically take into account some recent theological interpretations of transhumanism.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
