The paper concerns the epiploke, the 'weave' of metres and rhythms in ancient Greek poetry. Some passages from the comments on Hephaestion's work, which are the main metrical sources regarding this topic, are presented; they explain the epiploke in relation to the origin of the metra prototypa and to their relationship. The phenomenon concerns not only the theory, but also the practice, as ancient lyric poetry testifies. A passage from Aristophanes' Wasps (vv. 1265- 1274) has been chosen as an example of a series of trochaic-iambic epiplokai, which form the entire poem: they have been handed down from the most ancient and reliable manuscripts. Mostly in the modern editions the colometry and the metrical-rhythmical structure of the poem have been changed: hence the epiplokai and the iambic cola disappeared.
