The essay aims at clarifying whether and in what sense it might be plausible to speak of a Guardini’s philosophy of religion. First of all, the theological starting point for the thinking of Guardini and his "christliche Weltanschauung" are emphasized both with respect to a philosophy of religion conceived as a purely rational reflection on religion and a religious philosophy. Secondly, the affinities and differences of Guardini's philosophical-religious reflection are shown with respect to the phenomenological model in the philosophy of religion which is the one to which he is most inspired. Finally, the essay emphasizes the relationship of circularity between philosophy and religion supported by Guardini and some critical issues that it raises.
