Abstract

In the 1950s an architectural complex known as Domus di via Fanti was discovered in the city centre of Ancon. Relevant wall paintings in the s.c. Pompeian Second Style associated with a Nilotic frieze were detached from the walls of one of the rooms (later named F) and exhibited in the Archaeological National Museum at Ancon after a restoration. Starting from the direct analysis of these paintings in the Museum and of the unpublished documents in the SABAP-Marche archive, the contribution discusses the paintings considering the reliability of the current museum's arrangement, the general decorative system and iconographical details, the comparisons potentially assumed as models by the project, and the perception of them in the space where they were found. Room F was, in fact, an enigmatic and very small courtyard with a semicircular plan, delimitated by a porticus and apparently closed by a high wall in the opposite side.
