The paper analyses a passage of the Sermo 83, In natale sancti Petri apostoli (PL 54.429-432) by pope Leo the Great. The lines specifically considered (Sermo 83.2) contain several legal terms and concepts rooted in Roman law. Pope Leo aimed to edify the primacy of the bishop of Rome. He used juridical tools with mastery and interpreted the Christian Holy Scriptures (in particular Peter’s First epistle 5.1-3) in order to achieve his goal.
