The recent Coronavirus pandemic and the consequent Italian restrictive actions have stimulated a broad interdisciplinary reflection on the theme of housing. Within the emergency frame of the central Italy post-disaster (2016- 2017), this paper analyses the relationship between home confinement and housing practices in two SAE areas in the province of Macerata, built for welcoming those who lost their homes during the earthquake. The research started from the preliminary analysis of the two case studies’ pre-disaster housing configuration and uses qualitative methods, particularly the ethnographic ones. It highlights how, during the lockdown, emerged vulnerability processes linked to post-disaster housing ˗ already characterised by emergency and temporariness ˗ but also new social and housing forms, which recall resilient processes already activated following the disaster. The reflection is part of the broader debate on the re-functionalisation of internal areas, emphasising critical issues and opportunities in living in these territories.
