A new joint project between the University of Bonn, the Università della Campania, the Università della Tuscia as well as the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio per l’area metropolitana di Roma, la provincia di Viterbo e l’Etruria meridionale investigates the topography of the Monte Abatone necropolis south of the Etruscan metropolis Caere/Cerveteri. In the first field campaigns geophysical survey as well as the excavation of a group of seven tombs and several spaces of stone extraction took place. These tombs cover a range from the beginning of the 7th to the first half of the 6th century BC and show nearly all types of tombs of the orientalizing period.
