This special issue gathers articles that, by acknowledging the political dimension of migration policymaking, highlight the pressures that legal systems regulating the position of foreigners undergo in Italian and international contexts. In particular, governing migration is a battlefield that can be explored properly only if both enacted norms and implemented practices are considered. This introduction summarizes key foci discussed in the collected articles, spanning from the legal status of foreigners to asylum-seekers reception system via the spatial and professional reframing of the norms in practice.
