Surveys using drones with a wide angle lens at a low altitude were carried out during the 2015 excavation campaign by the University of Urbino in the Roman municipium of Forum Sempronii (Fossombrone, Marche, Italy), in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts of Urbino and the TerraDigit - Applied Geomatics Company. Forum Sempronii was founded around the second half of the 2 nd century BC, probably by Caius Sempronius Gracchus, on a vast terrace of the Metauro River, in an area already populated in Pre-Roman times. The excavations carried out since 1974 have brought to light important elements for the understanding of the urban planning of the city, which was based on a programmatic regular plan, with via Flaminia as a large decumanus maximus. A fundamental contribution has recently been given thanks to the use of aerial photos, satellite imagery and geophysical prospecting in significant areas: in addition to the AAerea XIII.2019, pp. 49 - 56 discovery of an amphitheatre, in particular, an important area of the Forum to the North of the Via Flaminia has been identified, with two temples and porches surrounding a large square. Differently from the usual surveys for georeferenced 3D models, in this case we wanted to test the use of a specifically made drone with fish-eye lens cameras, whose angle of view can be reduced from 150 to 115 degrees. We made overall, more than 3600 photos and we used 2500 of them in order to obtain three models of three different zones. The flying altitude has been maintained between 8 and 10 metres.
