Specific Learning Disorders at school and university: promoting inclusive education in language teaching In this essay we analyse how Specific Learning Disorders can make the process of learning and teaching a foreign language more complex, both at the secondary education level and at the university level. Although recent legislation has made great strides towards better accommodating the needs of students with SLD, promoting more inclusive teaching methodologies, there is still a lot to be done – particularly at university level – to ensure that these students can effectively participate in courses in foreign languages and cultures. Through the implementation of personalized programmes, the University of Urbino offers an innovative and integrated operational model where considerations of time management, materials, teaching methodologies and evaluation take into account the different needs and characteristics of each individual student in order to implement the language learning process more effectively.
