Starting from the analysis of the famous portrait of Costanza Monti Perticari made by Filippo Agricola, a neoclassical painter supported by the Roman «Giornale Arcadico di scienze lettere ed arti» which included count Giulio Perticari among its founders, this essay attempts for the fist time to follow Costanza’s interest in the figurative arts. The family environment in which she grew up was considered an environment that, besides her father, the poet Vincenzo Monti, who introduced her to literature, includes the landscape architect Giovanni Monti and, not least, the memory of the valuable work of her maternal grandfather the engraver Giovanni Pichler, one of the main exponents of the eighteenth-century glyptic. In this perspective, her acquaintances with sculptors, such as Antonio Canova, and the analysis of the artistic context in which she found herself living take on a different meaning. It is within this context that she might have created some landscape drawings, now in a private collection, that a long standing tradition has attributed to her.
