A letter of 1 March 1438 is preserved in the Malatesta correspondence in the Gonzaga Archive in Mantua, which, in full of the preparations for the first session of the Council of Ferrara (1438), the archbishop Pandolfo Malatesti sent to Gianfrancesco Gonzaga, Marquis of Mantua. The letter is interesting, because it document to both the disagreements that had matured within the Church of Rome between the theory of the conciliar primacy and the pontifical plenitudo potestatis, and excitement and hope that the same council could produce in Christianity western and eastern.
