Social affects play an important role to regulate body and mind states in interpersonal context. Shame and guilt, in particular, are two negative feelings that reveal a failure of emotional integration of self experience. This study examine relation between shame, guilt and dissociative tendencies in general population and in addicted samples. All subjects were administered a battery of self-report questionnaires: Dissociative Experiences Scale II, Creative Experiences Questionnaire and Test Of Self Conscious Affect. Dissociative tendencies confirms their relation with affect regulation, showing an association with bodily reaction to perceived dys-integration of Self, rather than with mental reaction to unapproved (from real or imagined others) behavior, especially in addicted subjects.
