La tecnica del disegno di Leonardo attraverso ISLe: confronto tra disegni sforzeschi e disegni tardi

The myth of Leonardo da Vinci is certainly linked to his extraordinary graphic ability, well summarized by the famous words of Giorgio Vasari: “Col disegno delle mani sapeva sì bene esprimere il suo concetto, che con i ragionamenti vinceva”. The presentation aims to investigate this extraordinary graphic technique using ISLe (InSight Leonardo), a digital tool developed to replace, investigate, describe and communicate ancient drawings, their methods and their contents. ISLe accurately reproduce their shape, characters and appearance, and was developed using Leonardo's drawings. Their accurate digital visualization requires, in effect, the exploitation of all today technological limits. The presentation is organized in two parts. The first part aims to illustrate the ISLe tool to understand its features and limits. The second focuses on the analysis of two drawings using ISLe, the Study of Proportions of the Human Body the so-called Vitruvian Man, today in Venice, at the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints of the Gallerie dell’Accademia (cat. No. 228) and the Drawing of a quadrangular fortress with double wall enclosure, Sheet n. 117 of the Codex Atlanticus, datable in the years in which Lombardy was under the dominion of the French, c. 1510. The analysis aims to show basic characters, analogies and differences between the graphic techniques of the two drawings with the aim to highlight recurrences and changes in Leonardo's graphic method.
