The article provides the critical text of the anonymous Novella di Bonaccorso di Lapo Giovanni according to the manuscript E (Modena, Biblioteca Estense, Est. It. 346 [α J 6 6]), that is a re-writing version, partly enlarged, of the most disseminated redaction (dated between 1373 and 1376), published in this journal in 2019. This paper aims to frame the novella within the genre of the so-called novelle spicciolate and to compare the two versions of the text – the plot of the beffa is based on historical facts – in order to underline that the text transmitted by the manuscript E shows a more significant literary character.
