Controversial Lacan. A little-known page in the history of psychoanalysis D’un discours qui ne serait pas du semblant: this is the question posed decisively by Lacan in the early 1970s. In other words: is it possible a discourse that is not of semblance? To grasp the importance of this issue, it may be useful to revisit a little-known page in the history of psychoanalysis. This article, then, unfolds along two movements: the first is a retrospective that reconstructs the emergence of variable length sessions in Lacan’s technique at a time when the psychoanalytic field was putting technique in the crosshairs; the second movement revives the pillars of novelty, reworked by the work of Giacomo Contri, a Freudian after Lacan, for the benefit of psychoanalysis.
