The present study examines the manipulation of narrative form through typographical heterogeneity, focusing specifically on the use of italics. After a brief overview of the multiple functions of such slanted font, which involves processes of deconstruction and reconstruction, the analysis will delve into Nancy Huston's «Arbre de l'oubli» and Gwenaëlle Aubry's «Personne». Beyond textual and authorial differences, the aim is to interpret italics as a distinctive feature in self-discovery, while also highlighting the 'mise en espace' of writing. This stylistic element can indeed serve as a tool for metalinguistic or metadiscursive reflection, thus exploring the feeling of distance experienced by multilingual or translingual writers and emphasizing otherness along with its various modes of expression.
