The paper focuses on Carlo Bo’s critical judgment on Surrealism in the decade between 1935 and 1945, as well as the role of visual arts in his reflection, based on documents preserved in the Fondazione Carlo e Marise Bo in Urbino. In addition to identifying the bibliographic sources on Surrealism consulted by Bo, the analysis of his unpublished correspondence with Leone Traverso reveals how Paul Éluard’s poetry and writings led Bo to reconsider the relationship between poetry and painting. This resulted in the inclusion of Surrealist visual arts in the volume Bilancio del surrealismo (1945)

Abstract
The paper focuses on Carlo Bo’s critical judgment on Surrealism in the decade between 1935 and 1945, as well as the role of visual arts in his reflection, based on documents preserved in the Fondazione Carlo e Marise Bo in Urbino. In addition to identifying the bibliographic sources on Surrealism consulted by Bo, the analysis of his unpublished correspondence with Leone Traverso reveals how Paul Éluard’s poetry and writings led Bo to reconsider the relationship between poetry and painting. This resulted in the inclusion of Surrealist visual arts in the volume Bilancio del surrealismo (1945)File | Dimensione | Formato | |
