After a short discussion about the Ptolemaic troubles with the motion of Mercury and its oval orbit, I will discuss the passage from the two-dimensional to the three-dimensional models for single planets, the so-called theoricae, on the merit of George Peurbach (1423-1461). Thus, I will look at the theorica of Mercury built by the instrument’ maker Girolamo della Volpaia (1530 1614) dated 1575 and preserved at the Department of Physics in Perugia.

Abstract
After a short discussion about the Ptolemaic troubles with the motion of Mercury and its oval orbit, I will discuss the passage from the two-dimensional to the three-dimensional models for single planets, the so-called theoricae, on the merit of George Peurbach (1423-1461). Thus, I will look at the theorica of Mercury built by the instrument’ maker Girolamo della Volpaia (1530 1614) dated 1575 and preserved at the Department of Physics in Perugia.File in questo prodotto:
