Operational Technology (OT) networking is a key characteristic of the Industry 4.0 paradigm. It is essential to OT and IT integration but may generate novel cybersecurity threats to the manufacturing environment. In this work, we propose to exploit the Asset Administration Shell framework to tightly integrate network monitoring and control with the OT to detect traffic anomalies and control possible cybersecurity threats.

Abstract

Operational Technology (OT) networking is a key characteristic of the Industry 4.0 paradigm. It is essential to OT and IT integration but may generate novel cybersecurity threats to the manufacturing environment. In this work, we propose to exploit the Asset Administration Shell framework to tightly integrate network monitoring and control with the OT to detect traffic anomalies and control possible cybersecurity threats.
