After providing an overview of translations of French-language African theatre plays into Italian, we will illustrate how they fit into a fragmented and porous publishing landscape. We will examine the specific characteristics of the discourse that accompanies them and then attempt to discern the strategies adopted to present such a distant cultural universe, dominated by orality and diatopic variation. Finally, we will consider the possible strengths and/or weaknesses of this discursive and translational field.
