It is not surprising the thematic proximity to the high Pyrenees sung by Werfel and some glimpses of Santucci’s narrative: the soul of place makes the place like a place of soul. Where there is an ontological “defibration”, the subjective Marian capacity intervenes with the «shield» and the «refuge» in favor of the human condition. For Santucci, Virgin Mary is, first of all, the «leader of our misfortunes», a «sister» who «has suffered the fate as we’re suffering». It may seem a banal observation and it is not: Santucci, in the wake of Werfel’s expressionism, invites us to consider she as a concrete woman, the «highest victim of life». That’s because Mary, in Foucaultian terms, is a subject that seems to require a hermeneutic in the philosophical-literary field that reflects the immaculate intentionality. And the secret of every place is hidden in this intentionality.
