The article explores some connections between teaching practices and learning strategies related to technologies used by university students early in their studies. This relationship is extremely nuanced. University teaching seems to be searching for a mediation between the need to develop digital skills, to offer meaning close to the student’s experience, and, at the same time, the commitment to ensuring the educational relationship its richness and complexity. Students do not seem to encounter problems in learning connected with using some technologies, but not always the practical exercise is followed by a real digital competence. The reflections are based on data analysis of an exploratory research aimed, in November and December 2019, targeted at first-year students of the University of Urbino and repeated, in the same months of 2022, after the pandemic events. The research initiated investigated: the relationships between learning and the use of technology (use of digital tools, students’ perceptions of the reliability, clarity and comprehensibility of information found online); perceptions of effectiveness related to the teaching practices of the Flipped classroom; and perceptions experienced following class attendance.
