Introduction Considering the progress in tumor treatment, early detection, and the aging of the population, the number of cancer survivors is estimated to grow over the years, especially among women who survived breast cancer. Their major concern is the occurrence of tumor relapses after clinical remission. It has been demonstrated that exercise has positive effects on reducing the risk of relapses in cancer survivors. Moreover, previous studies proposed ozonized oil as an agent for medical application to reduce cancer progression. The aim of this preclinical study is to evaluate the effect of the combination of exercise-conditioned serum and ozonized oil on the tumorigenic potential of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells. Methods The human sera of three breast cancer survivor women were collected immediately before and 3 hours after 45 minutes of aerobic exercise at 40% of individual heart rate reserve. Their sera were used in combination with different concentrations of oil with high-ozonide content to evaluate the tumorigenic potential of TNBC cells (MDA-MB-231) in an in vitro three-dimensional (3D) culture model. Results Both exercise-conditioned sera and high-ozonizded oil lowered the colony-formation capacity of cells in the 3D culture model. Moreover, our preliminary results showed that the reduction of 3D colonies formation improved with the combination of exercise-conditioned sera and high-ozonizded oil, suggesting a potential synergistic effect. Conclusions These results suggest that the combination of exercise and the administration of ozonized oil deserves to be further investigated as a promising approach in cancer tertiary prevention, reducing cancer relapse risk and mortality.
